Day 36 - Mission Beach and Arrival at Cairns

We took the opportunity to explore North Mission, just north of Mission Beach.
We walked along what would have been a beautiful beach, but unfortunately evidence of the cyclone is still everywhere.
Mission Beach was once a lovely place, but now it just seems to be a desolate town. There aren't many people about and the destruction is all over the place. Uprooted palm trees, derelict houses, the lot. This is over 2 months after the cyclone.

It was quite upsetting to walk through really, but I'm still glad we came to Mission Beach.
Afterwards we walked down the beach for an hour all the way back to our hostel.
We got on our bus, and 2 hours later we arrived at our final destination, Cairns.

We arrived in Cairns at 6pm, so there wasn't much time to have a look around. We walked down the main street and headed to our hostel. On our way we passed a massive casino and many shops, I'm sure we'll have a lot to do tomorrow!

The hostel is great, they're really helpful and have properly briefed us on things to do here.
Can't believe Australia is nearly over!
